The Million Pillowcase Challenge

By now I know most of you have heard about American Patchwork & Quiltings 2010 Pillowcase Challenge. The idea is to make pillowcases & for quilt shops to donate them to a designated charity. We designated the ConKerr Cancer Foundation as they are set up to donate the pillowcases to children who are currently undergoing cancer treatments. I am thrilled to report that we have donated about 200 so far this year! I want to say this challenge has helped me learn of many more organizations that are assisting children fighting pediatric cancers. Most recently I met Joann Nawrocki, who heads up Alexa Nawrocki Pediatric Cancer Foundation. After learning more about this foundation I immediately offered Joann some of our pillowcases! She gladly accepted them to give to the children they are in contact with at Children's Hospital of Phl.

Prettiest Snow

This was the scene outside my bedroom window on January 8th, 2010. Such a beautiful dusting of snow. It was so breathtaking, I thought if I could just capture the scene & put it into a quilt. Perhaps someday. But for now it will just have to rest in my blog. Put it on the list.

Best Christmas Gift

My staff & my close friends & family all know that I am a big promoter of giving handmade gifts! I love the whole Zakka concept. This year I made Dresden Plate hotpads that were awesome. Stop in and the shop and I'll be happy to give you the pattern. Well this Christmas I was very much taken back, when my nephews Chris (8) and Evan (6) presented me with their handmade gift on Christmas Day! A knock-off Ugly Doll! Meet Elfie! Isn't he just the cutest ugly elf you ever saw?

Fall Quilt Market 2009 Houston Texas

Just back from Fall Quilt Market, Houston Texas. It was a fantastic show, with great fabrics, patterns & inspiration everywhere! I can not wait to to show you all ..what is new! The very nice surprise was meeting up with Mary Jane Butters from Mary Jane's Farm Magazine, a favorite at The Village Quilter. She introduced her very first fabric line through Andover Fabrics!

Also, lots of wonderful Japanese taupe fabrics from several fabric companies. I love these fabrics, as they envoke a certain element of calm & tranquility. We currently have a MODA line called Evening Mist that I invite you to explore. We are currently working on a shop sample & I can see it in a great winter handbag.

Let me know what your thoughts!
